Our Story

The Health Barn began with a shared belief — that truly effective care happens when people are listened to, supported and treated as a whole.

Founded by Ceris Owen, Doctor of Chiropractic, and Christine Jackson, BA BSc, Clinical Reflexologist, The Health Barn grew from two separate practices and a mutual understanding that working together could offer something more meaningful. Through regularly referring clients to one another, they saw first-hand how chiropractic, massage and reflexology could complement each other, creating deeper, longer-lasting benefits when delivered as part of an integrated approach.

Ceris began her journey in hands-on therapy through massage and acupuncture before qualifying as a chiropractor, building her practice under the name Eden Bodyworks. Christine trained in Complementary Health and Clinical Reflexology, opening Calico Health & Wellbeing Centre in 2012, where she combined reflexology with flotation therapy to support relaxation and balance. Though their paths began separately, their shared values around care, connection and quality naturally brought them together.

In 2018, their vision took physical shape. An 18th-century barn in the heart of Askham — one of the Lake District’s most beautiful villages — was transformed into what is now The Health Barn. From the outset, the intention was to preserve the building’s character while creating a calm, welcoming and accessible space where people could truly feel at ease.

Today, The Health Barn is a place of calm, care and collaboration. A space where experienced practitioners work together to support wellbeing through thoughtful, individualised treatments. Alongside one-to-one therapies, it has grown into a hub for classes, workshops and learning — nurturing not only physical health, but connection, understanding and balance.

At its heart, The Health Barn exists to offer time, space and support in a busy world — a place where you can pause, feel listened to, and begin to restore your sense of wellbeing, balence and health.
