with Ceris Owen
Chiropractic care at The Health Barn specialises in the low force chiropractic technique known as the McTimoney Method. Not only will its gentle approach relieve your symptoms, but the thorough assessment process will find the underlying cause, so that the root of the problem can be found and addressed. This means that you will feel better for a sustained period of time. The key to the McTimoney approach is the speed and accuracy of the adjustments. Ceris uses chiropractic care along with other techniques such as massage and dry needling for treatments.
Some of the conditions that chiropractic care can help are:
General, acute & chronic backache
Joint pains, including hip and knee pain from osteoarthritis (OA) (as an adjunct to core OA treatments and exercise)
Shoulder complaints (dysfunction, disorders and pain)
Soft tissue disorders of the shoulder
Rotator cuff injuries, disease or disorders
Mechanical neck pain (as opposed to neck pain following injury i.e. whiplash)
Headache arising from the neck (cervicogenic)
Ankle sprain (short term management)
Elbow pain and tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) arising from associated musculoskeletal conditions of the back and neck (but not isolated occurrences)
Minor sports injuries and tensions
Plantar fasciitis (short term management)
Generalised aches and pains
Dizziness (Ceris is qualified to perform the Epley Manoeuvre, a treatment for BPPV. )
Chiropractic is also a successful preventative therapy and can prevent minor problems becoming greater. Chiropractors are also skilled at giving advice on posture. This includes your posture whilst working, driving, sleeping as well as during exercise.
What to expect…….
At your first visit Ceris will carry out a full consultation and examination to determine how best to help you. This will include a medical history including details of your current problem, any previous history as well as general health and lifestyle information. Ceris will then carry out any necessary orthopaedic and neurological tests necessary to establish a working diagnosis. This will generally be carried out with you fully clothed, but to enable this please wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing. Ceris will explain what she is looking for with the tests she performs and will discuss any findings. Once Ceris has arrived at a working diagnosis, and if you are happy to proceed, treatment will be carried out at this time.
For your first visit please allow up to an hour.
Follow Up Visits
At your follow up visits Ceris will discuss your progress since your last appointment and carry out more treatment as necessary. She will also offer any exercise or lifestyle advice that she feels will assist your progress. Again this will be carried out fully clothed so loose, comfortable clothing is helpful.
The number of visits you will need varies greatly from person to person and condition to condition, but as a rough guide the longer a condition has been present, the longer it takes to improve. Ceris will discuss the recommended number of visits and agree on a plan of care with you . Your progress will also be reviewed regularly to ensure the plan is working, or to agree any changes that may be necessary.
For your follow up visits please allow 20 to 30 minutes.
At The Health Barn we believe everyone can benefit from chiropractic care, whether you are currently in pain or not. This helps to keep the body functioning to the best of its ability, nips any potential problems in the bud, and gives you peace of mind. Once your condition has improved, of if you just like the sound of this, we offer regular maintenance visits. These would generally be every one to three months, depending on the individual. You are of course, free to cease chiropractic care at any time.
